Einmal (Water and Ice)

All live inner lives. Some: brief incursions
But the rest of us, beyond diversions
We are brilliant surgeons, ever cutting
Away and casting off stays, when at last
Gravity itself becomes a burden
Floating about a troubled inner sea
We are the drowning, madness from above
Beneath the pond Earth’s children would skate on
Our lips, between water and ice, whisper
Our love. We are set, our faces pressed full
Against that crystal parapet, seeing
Our captors skating, on their own hating
Where ego’s a mirror that does show true
In one shattered moment as faith falls through.
